Rifle & Pistol Range

The Yolo Sportsmen's Association pistol and rifle ranges are divided into separate 25, 50, and 100-yard ranges. These ranges are separated by rows of trees and defined by dirt containment berms placed perpendicular to the firing line. The firing line is defined by convenient tables or benches placed along the entire length. An overhead sunshade provides protection for shooters and their equipment from the elements, extending the length of the firing line. A Range Officer building is in place between the 50 and 100-yard ranges. This building divides the range into the north and south activity zones. These zones can operate independently of each other. The 25-yard range is the furthest north and is subdivided into 10, 15, and 25-yard shooting distances. Handgun, rifles, and black powder guns of all calibers can be used at this location.

Many shooters sight in new pistols and rifles at the 25-yard range before heading to the 50 and 100-yard ranges. Handguns, rifles, and black powder guns of all calibers can also be used here. Furthest south is the 100-yard range. This range is limited to any caliber rifle only, (NO HANDGUNS), including black powder. This range is very popular near the start of the hunting season so come early to get a bench. Firearms must be loaded only at the firing line with muzzles extending over the line when shooting at all ranges. Only legal firearms and ammunition as defined for civilian use and conforming to State and Federal laws may be used on the pistol and rifle ranges.

Trap Shooting Disciplines
Singles
Singles, as it is called, is shot from 16 yards; which is the furthest point forward on a Trap field. This is considered to be the easiest of the 3 disciplines of Trap. In a competition shoot, all entrants shoot singles no matter what their skill level is.
Handicap
Handicap is considered the hardest and most prestigious of the 3 disciplines of Trapshooting. Handicapping a shooter is a method of equalizing competition amongst shooters. A more skilled shooter will be handicapped by shooting further away from the Trap house than other shooters of lesser skill level; as far as 27 yards away from the center of the Trap house. These handicap yardages vary from no less than 18 yards to 27 yards.
Doubles
Doubles are nothing more than a modified version of singles but have an added difficulty rating as the shooter must break both targets before they hit the ground instead of just the single target. In doubles, the target path of both targets remains the same. The trap machine does not sweep left to right during doubles. Each target is scored on an individual basis with the shooter having to shoot only once at each one. Shooting double Trap requires a shotgun that will fire 2 shells without having to be reloaded. Fun

ZZ BIRDS

A ZZ Bird, also known as Helice, is simulated live bird flight at its best. Unlike straight flying clay targets, ZZ's replicate true flyer abilities zig-zagging, arcing, quail-like flight. The most popular use of ZZ is a simulation of live bird rings. Several launchers and a fenced-in area replicate the action and rules associated with the sport. This is an attraction to the habitual pigeon shooter, sporting clays enthusiast and to those who enjoy excitement and challenge in their shooting.  $2.00 per Target
